An Affinity Group is a group formed around a shared interest or common goal, to which individuals formally or informally belong. Affinity Groups are generally precluded from being under the aegis of any government agency, and their purposes must be primarily non-commercial. Examples of affinity groups include private social clubs and hobby clubs.
It is possible to structure an insurance solution that is offered to all members, and in so doing such offerings are generally deemed to be mandatory, that is the insurance carrier provides a benefit that is both generic and priced on the assumption that every member participates in receiving the cover.
Many insurance carriers like structuring insurance programs for Affinity Groups as they have more certainty on unit numbers taking out their insurance.
